SCHOOL UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 6TH THROUGH 8TH

Dear Parents or Guardians of students in Grades 6-8,

As the 2023-2024 school year enters Spring, it is important that we continue to be proactive in encouraging all of our students to maintain a growth mindset, keep working towards their personal goals and end the school year on a strong, positive note. At PS232, we have high expectations and there are some crucial components of the school community that we would like your support with for the duration of the school year and beyond.

ATTENDANCE/LATENESS: Attendance is a vital part of education. Students who arrive after 8: l 5AM are considered late. Lateness is a factor that prevents your child from gaining the benefits of a full instructional day. Effective, May I st, if your child arrives after 8:30AM without a parent note or explanation (ex. A doctor's appointment) they will be held for reflection that afternoon. Reflection will take place from 2:25pm until 3:25pm. During this time, they will work on the content missed and/or a literacy based activity.

UNIFORM: Students are expected to wear their uniform on a daily basis. The appropriate daily uniform is a light blue or navy blue polo shirt or any shirt that has the PS232 logo. This shirt is to be worn with khaki/beige OR navy blue bottoms such as pants, skirts, shorts, leggings or joggers. Students are also expected to wear appropriate footwear especially sneakers on days that they have Physical Education. Flip flops, crocs or slides are NOT acceptable. Students may wear any PS232 hoodie in addition to the regular uniform. Effective May I, if your child is not wearing the daily uniform, they will be held for reflection on that same day. Reflection will take place from 2:25pm until 3:25pm.

As we prepare our students to become College and Career ready, it is imperative that our students come to PS232 prepared and ready to learn. One of our principles of learning at PS232 is "Integrity" and we thank you in advance for partnering with us to ensure that your child demonstrates integrity by arriving at school on time and wearing the correct uniform. We appreciate your diligence and ongoing support with helping us prepare our young scholars for the future ahead of them.

Thanking you in advance,

Mrs. Naviha Ponce-Paz

Dear Families:

We are writing to inform you that on Monday, April 8, the New York City area will experience a partial solar eclipse beginning around 2:00 p.m. A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and earth. This casts a shadow that may make the sky dark for the eclipse's duration, as the sun will become approximately 90% covered in NYC during the peak coverage time, around 3:25 p.m.

While this may overlap with school dismissal times, please know that there will be no changes to dismissal, and after-school programming will remain in effect. Please also be prepared for increased traffic throughout the area and consider using public transit instead of driving during this time.

If you and your family are planning to view the eclipse, please make sure to do so safely by using proper, specialized eye protection. Regular sunglasses and other filters are not a safe replacement for solar eclipse glasses. Glasses are available at the Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library, and New York Public Library while supplies last. It is recommended to call in advance to ensure supplies are available. Please take precautions, whether inside or out, as looking at the sun without protection can cause loss of the ability to see colors, loss of vision, or even permanent blindness.

For more information on solar eclipse eye safety, please visit the New York City Department of Health guidance:

Sincerely,

New York City Public Schools

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

We are excited to share that our Parent Teacher Conferences are taking place on Thursday, March 7th, 2024. Students will be dismissed at 11:15AM and we will be offering an afternoon, in-person Parent Teacher Conference session from 12:30PM to 2:30PM. Similar to our last Parent Teacher Conference, the evening sessions will be offered remotely and will take place from 5:00PM to 8:00PM.

Elementary families should make appointments directly with their child’s teacher to make either an in-person or remote appointment. Please contact your child’s teacher using the usual communication tools you have used all year long.

Middle school families will also have access to in person Parent Teacher Conferences from 12:30PM to 2:30PM however, they are being offered on a first come, first serve basis. When you arrive at school, you will be given a list of room numbers where you can speak to your child’s specific content area teacher. For those families who are seeking specific appointment times for the evening remote session, please make outreach directly to your child’s content area teacher for this.

If you have any questions, please contact the main office.

Thank you.

Estimados padres y/o tutores:

Remote Readiness Day

December 1, 2023

Dear Families,

New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) are dedicated to ensuring that every student can learn uninterrupted, including during disruptions caused by building closures. To accomplish this goal, we want to make sure that our students and staff are prepared for successful remote learning. NYCPS has developed a practice plan to support and improve schools' readiness in the event a transition to remote learning is necessary. PS232 has been selected to participate in the first round of tech readiness activities on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

What does that mean for your child?

  • Your child will still come to school but they must bring the device they would use if we worked remotely from home. This maybe a NYCDOE assigned device or their personal device.
  • In school, there will be at least one period where the teacher will engage the students in a digital activity to ensure that all students understand how to log on to a device and to their digital accounts.
  • In addition to the in-class activity, the teachers will assign a short task for students to complete at home. Please ensure your child completes the digital activity at home. If your child does not have access to either a personal internet-enabled device or a NYCPS-issued device at home, be sure to reach out to us. If you are opting out from using a NYCPS device, please let us know by completing this form (online).

Thank you. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Desimone, Parent Coordinator for additional support.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Naviha Ponce-Paz
